1,187,086. Polyarylene polyethers. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 19 Sept., 1967 [19 Sept., 1966], No. 42645/67. Heading C3R. Certain polyarylene polyethers are given increased flame resistance by incorporating therein antimony oxide. The polyarylene polyethers are those having repeating units where E is the residuum of a dihydric phenol having no nuclear halogen substituents and E<SP>1</SP> is the residuum of a benzenoid compound having a sulphone group in at least one of the positions ortho and para to the valence bonds and no nuclear halogen substituents, both of the residues E and E<SP>1</SP> being valently bonded to the oxygen atoms through aromatic carbon atoms. From 0À5 to 5 parts by weight of the antimony oxide may be incorporated per 100 parts by weight of polyarylene polyether. In examples, antimony oxide is mixed with polymers prepared from 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane and 4,4-dichlorodiphenylsulphone and from hydroquinone and dichlorodiphenylsulphone. |
