The polycarbonates are thermoplastic aromatic polycarbonates based on diphenols which are characterised in that they contain, in condensed form, between 0.5 and 5 mol-%, preferably between 1 and 3 mol-%, based on the total molar amount of condensed, aromatic hydroxyl compounds, of aromatic hydroxyketones. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of these polycarbonates and to the modification of these polycarbonates.
