PURPOSE:To obtain the title compounds in high yields at high selectivity, by reacting inexpensive methacrylamide as a starting material with alcohols in the presence of a specific catalyst while removing NH3 formed as a by-product outside the system intermittently or continuously. CONSTITUTION:Methacrylamide is reacted with alcohols, e.g. methanol, etc. in the presence of a catalyst consisting of at least one type of compound selected from bromide, iodide, nitrate, sulfate, borate, phosphate, and carboxylates of copper or a combination of these copper salts and a basic nitrogen-containing compound in an aqueous medium at 50-250 deg.c and 5-70kg/cm<2> to give the desired compounds. NH3 formed as a by-product is removed outside the reaction system intermittently or continuously. EFFECT:No need for conc. sulfuric acid and expensive materials for reactors. USE:Industrial raw materials. |
