A flange protecting strip comprises a U-shaped cross-section body of an elastomer or plastomer material reinforced by a metal strip (2), one limb (3) of the U having an elongated lip portion (8) extending toward the connecting portion (5) and longitudinal gripping teeth (10) provided on the face of the lip nearest the other limb (4) which is also provided with longitudinal teeth (14) which cooperate with the teeth (10) of the lip portion (8). A second lip (18) may be provided on the limb (3). Lips (8, 18) and teeth (14) may be of softer material than the body portion.
