<p>A component of the metal-bearing material is reduced to a metallic state and then the metal so formed segregated from the remaining material using a segregation catalyst, comprising at least one salt of said metal as a vapour, at an elevated temperature so that the metal may be subsequently separated from the relict non-metallic residue. The recovery of Ni, Co, Mn, Pb, Zn, Cr, Fe and Cu is specifically referred to. An "attractant" may be added at the segregation stage, the metal being recovered as an alloy thereof: suitable attractants are Cu, Ni, C, N, B, P, Si, S.</p> |
