Wood gas is generated in the form of a variable mixture, adapted to the operating requirements of the user, of generator gas and water gas. In a gas generator having a shaft-type structure, an air generator gas (lean gas), a high-grade water gas or tar-cracking gas (rich gas) or a mixture of the abovementioned gases is produced as selected by controlled running of the degassing, gasifying and tar-cracking processes by means of air, steam and tar vapour in the heat-insulated incandescent zone of a reaction chamber. To cover the heat balance of the endothermic rich gas processes, the heat capacity of the incandescent bed and of the ceramic hearth zone is utilised periodically by carrying out the rich-gas generation under control between two temperature limits. |
