<p>Crude 11-cyano-undecanoic acid (I), e.g. the crude prod. of thermal cracking of 1, 1'-peroxy-dicyclohexylamine at 300-1000 degrees C, can be purified and decolourised by contacting crude (I) as acid or ammonium salt in an organic solvent not reactive with O3 at 0-100 degrees C, pref. 1-3C aliphatic carboxylic acid or 1-2C halogenated hydrocarbon, with O3, pref. in amt. 0-05-5% by wt. of (I). Pref. the crude (I) is subjected to pref-purificn, e.g. by recrystallisation or contact with active C. Excellent purificn. is obtd. Prod., on hydrogenating, forms 12-NH2-dodecanoic acid which is may be polymerised to Nylon 12.</p> |
