The toy building set operates according to the tongue and groove principle and includes building blocks (1) having longitudinal grooves (2) and connecting elements (3). It is therefore possible to insert the connecting elements (3), both longitudinally and at the end face, into the longitudinal grooves (2) of the building blocks (1). The connecting elements (3) are bow-shaped. The longitudinal sides of the elements (3) act resiliently via longitudinal slots (7) with a recess (8). This makes it possible to connect individual building blocks (1) to one another in a simple fashion by sliding them into one another. Though the basic elements are simple, a great variety of structures can be produced and the building blocks can be connected to one another in a longitudinal direction, perpendicularly to one another, and even in a three-dimensional manner. This building set requires a low degree of dexterity and less logical reasoning ability than building sets known to date and is therefore suitable for younger children. <IMAGE>
