Telephone cable has plastics-insulated conductors. The cable core is surrounded by a metallic screen to which is firmly attached an overlying pref. polyethylene sleeve. The spacer in the core and between it and the screen are filled with water-impermeable material. Between the core and the screen is a layer of pref. paper coated on one side with polyethylene, with the polyethylene towards a layer of polyethylene copolymer coated on the screen. Pref. the layer isstrip of soft, open-pore foamed plastics, to which is applied a polyethylene tape to increase its strength. The screen is Al foil, coated on both sides with the copolymer, to which the sleeve adheres.
