1433810 Rolling rods VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN- und STAHLWERKE ALPINE MONTAN AG 26 July 1973 [28 July 1972] 35683/73 Heading B3M A metal rod suitable for concrete reinforcement is provided with protrusions and depressions in two final hot-rolling passes, the penultimate pass forming two rows of protrusions or depressions on opposite sides of the rod, and the final pass forming two further rows, offset from the first ones. The rolls in the final pass are so shaped that the further rows are formed without disturbing the first two rows. In an example, the rolls of the penultimate pass, Fig. 2, have opposed grooves 7 which form spaced ribs 12 and 13 on a rod 8, Fig. 4. The rod is then turned through 90 degrees and rolled in a final pass, Fig. 3, which produces further ribs 14 and 15 by means of grooves 10. Recesses 11 in the rolls accommodate the initial ribs 12 and 13 without deforming them. The two sets of rolls may be offset by 90 degrees from each other, and may have projections on their surfaces to form indentations in the rod. In this case, the ends of the first two rows of indentations may overlap those of the final two rows. Various patterns of ribs or bosses (Figs. 6 to 11, not shown) may be used. |
