Antibacterial 7-(alpha-(4-pyridylthio) acetamido) cephalosporanic acid derivs. N3A. and pharmaceutically acceptable, non-toxic salts thereof are prepared by reacting 1 mole of (II) with pref. at least 1 mole of an acid halide-hydrohalide (III) in an organic solvent in the presence of excess of pref. minimum 3 moles of a teriary amine at -10 degrees to +10 degrees C. (A = H or acetoxy; X = Cl, Br or I). (I) are known compounds with antibacterial activity against both Gram-pos. and Gram-neg. bacteria. They may be used as antibacterial agents, feedstuff supplements, in the treatment of mastitis in cattle, as therapeutic agents for birds, animals and humans and in the treatment of infections caused by Gram-pos and Gram-neg bacteria. |
