1337795 Producing CO 2 L E LEAS R L LEAS and C J JOHNSON 12 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1465/71 Heading C1A CO 2 is reacted with a sulphur-containing coke to produce an SO 2 -containing CO gas, which is then reacted with a high valence metal oxide to remove SO 2 as the metal sulphide and to oxidize the CO to CO 2 . The CO 2 is partly recycled, and the surplus used to drive a turbine. The metal oxide is preferably Co 3 O 4 which is reduced to CoO in the second stage. Reference is also made to oxides of Fe, W, Pd, Ba, Cu, Mn, and Ti. The oxide is regenerated with air, SO 2 being evolved and absorbed in alcohol; the coke bed is simultaneously reheated with air. A series of coke/oxide beds may be used, the CO 2 being taken off for the turbine when it reaches the desired temperature. Two such series of beds may operate alternately for continuous production. |
