1417694 Seed dressing apparatus T G EVANS and G A RYDER 22 Nov 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 58223/71 Heading A2Q [Also in Division B1] An apparatus for mixing seeds with a chemical agent comprises a dished rotor 2 on which the seeds and chemical are thrown outwards and upwards by centrifugal force and a fixed wall 1 against which they fall back onto the rotor. Seed is metered by a conveyor or by batch weigher 7. The chemical is added directly as powder, slurry or liquid. The mixture is expelled by opening port 13 whilst the rotor is still turning. It collects in bin 10 and is dispensed into sacks via gross weigher 11 and tube 12. In a modified form the rotor may be ribbed or coated with a frictional material, e.g. polyurethane. The chemical enters through conduit 49, 50 or 51 (Fig. 2), which may be fitted with a spray-head or dribbler bar. If conduit 50 is used the chemical is thrown outwards by rotating perforated discs 52, 53 and 54. Baffles 46, 47 and (48) improve mixing. Where a slurry is used the liquid may be carried away by air drawn in through holes (not shown) in the rotor or wall and expelled through dust filter 33 and port 37 by fan 35. The apparatus may be used to apply fungicide or insecticide to cotton or cereal seeds. |
