The building element (panel) comprises an interconnected cementitious matrix in which are dispersed a number of zones of a cementitious material of heavier density. A pref. assembly has an interconnected matrix of density 60-200 lbs.)ft.3 and includes a continuous cementitious phase, a discontinuous phase of aggregate particles, organic fibres, and/or inorganic fibres. Each of the lower density zones has a density of 10-50 lbs./ft.2 and includes a continuous phase of perlite, vermiculite and/or expandable polymer. Used for building panels for constructing walls, floor and columns. The panel is simple and economical to mfr., has a high compressive strength, is lightweight and has good thermal and acoustic insulating properties.
