The retro-active differential torque-converter may be incorporated in power transmission systems, and utilises epicycloidal gear trains. The unit has prim. (A) and sec. differentials (C) of which the cages (14, 28) connect to the drive (16) and the driven shafts (20) respectively. The planetary gears (10, 12, 18 and 24, 26, 32) are coupled in pairs, and the two groups provide different gear ratios of M and N respectively. The two differentials incorporate epicycloidal gear trains of the drive and the driven type respectively obtg. a coupling with a specific demultiplication of M. The unit may have an epicycloidal train (B) which is co-axial and in series with the drive (A) and driven (C) trains, and the three trains (A, B, C) may be identical.
|
