<p>Isotopes are separated into heavy and light fractions by electrolysis in which a sharp, non-constant drop in potential is arranged in the path of ions moving towards an electrode. The drop in potential may take place through a microporous membrane which offers varying electrical resistance through its thickness; alternatively, a double layer of non-miscible electrolytes may replace the membrane.</p> |
