The retainer for use on a cable railway has a shaped receiver pivoting on a stationary support. This moves between a foot nearly perpendicular and also inclined to this position. A spring return mechanism returns it to the first position. The receiver is horn shaped, a guide fixed on the stationary support being joined to the guides of the cable support system. The stationary support is fixed by support arms on the pulley post. The receivers are restrained by stops.
