The dishwasher has a circulating pump (9) and a wash container (2) with two superposed crockery baskets (4, 5) each mounted above a rotary spray arm (7, 8) and fed by the pump wherein the pipe (10) leading from the pump (9) to the upper spray arm (8) is provided with nozzles (13) or the like along the section running in the container (2) between the baskets (4, 5) from one container wall (12) to the spray arm bearing (11). The cross-sectional area of the opening of the pipe (10) can be adjusted by a displaceable sleeve (14) or other closure member which can be controlled by an actuating member (15). This allows spray jets of equal pressure to be produced through the spray arms as well as when required a spray of reduced pressure for more sensitive crockery in which case the excess pressure can be diverted to the nozzles of the spray arm for the more heavily soiled crockery.
