The bottom end of the peg has projections or grooves employed to anchor the peg in a frame so metal sheet or plate can be supported during hot cutting, esp. flame cutting, of the sheet or plate. The replaceable top is pref. made of free-cutting steel or copper and has a shank on its underside, the shank being retained in a hole in the conical portion of the peg by elastic or plastic reformation of either the shank or the peg. Alternatively, the shank on the replaceable top may be clamped, or held by a ratchet, in the peg. During flame cutting, the sheet or plate is supported by pegs; and the tops of the pegs are eventually destroyed by the flame. The invention reduces the cost of the pegs by using a replaceable top, i.e. only the top is renewed when the peg is worn.
|
