Antistatic agent for textiles, esp. carpets - of alkylene oxide-glycidol copolymer, curing agent and catalyst

Antistatic agent for application to textile materials comp rises a mixt. of (a) a polymer with a mol. wt. of is not >20000consisting mainly of units-CH2CHRO- in which 10-90% of the units R are H, CH3 or C2H5, 1-90% is RCH2OH and 0-15% is R'COOCH2, where R'CO is the acyl radical of a 2-20 C fatty acid or a polybasic carboxylic acid; (b) a curing agent for the polymer, contg. a number of gps. which react with prim. OH gps.; and (c) a catalyst which promotes the reaction between (a) and (b). Pref. the curing agent (b) is a melamine-formaldehyde resin and the curing catalyst is a sulphonic acid. The compsns. are esp. useful for applying durable antistatic finishes to textile fabrics e.g. of polyester, polyacrylonitrile and polyamide. The agents are colourless and odourless, non-greasy and non-matting, and do not affect the handle or appearance of the fabrics.
