Mast foot assembly, partic. for surfboards equipped with sails, is in two parts fitting one inside the other, and part of it at least turns freely, pref. through 360 degrees in the mast or hull. The socket can have three or more fingers, and it and the ball are pref. of plastics, pref. polyethylene or polyamide. The socket fingers can be radiused at their free ends, at intervals of 120 degrees forming an opening smaller than the dia. of the ball but larger than that of the shank onto which the ball joins, and being of elastic material so as to allow ball insertion and snap into engagement behind it.
