Mineral fibre acoustic absorption esp. for IC engine silencers - has low content of binder, the amt. pref. varying as a function of thickness and density of sheet

The material consists of a fabric composed of mineral fibres bonded with a resin-based adhesive. The bulk density is 20-100 kg/m3 and the binder content is 1 (esp. 0.3-0.8) wt%. Pref. the proportion of binder per volume of mineral fibres varies from one side of the sheet to the other as a function of the thickness and density. The sheets or mats are sufficiently deformable to adapt to the required shape in a silencer, but maintain their acoustic absorption properties.
