In a frame is a bowl (a), contg. a perforated bowl (b) with holes in which metal-ceramic magnets are located. Bowl (b) is suspended via dampers from the frame, and is kinematically linked to a vibrator to shake and stir the material used for pptn. In the upper part of bowl (b) is a ring-shaped overflow gutter via which the spent soln. flows into a drain pipe (c) with a flexible connection to a drain pipe (d) fixed in the wall of bowl (a). In the pref. tank, the incoming soln. is fed via a circular inlet gutter into the top of bowl (a) so the soln. must flow downwards in bowl (a) and then up through the vibrating bowl (b). Electrical insulators are pref. used between the dampers and the frame so bowl (b) is insulated from bowl (a). Used in hydrometallurgical extn. of nonferrous metals, esp. the pptn. of Cu onto scrap iron such as iron swarf or scrap cans to obtain a yield of 96-99% Cu and a ppte. contg. 87-90% Cu.
