Electron beam welder with vacuum chamber - has elastically-mounted jig holding workpiece and gun to prevent relative position changes due to chamber wall deformation

The electron-beam welder is designed so that the relative positions of the electron gun and workpiece are not affected by deformations to the walls of the vacuum chamber. This is accomplished by making the gun/workpiece jig independent of the cover (14) or bell jar that contains the vacuum. The jig is fixed to a base (16) which rests via a vibration-absorbing three-point mount on the base plate of the vacuum chamber. The jig is therefore not rigidly linked to any part of the chamber.
