The X-ray tube is designed to prevent interference caused by the insulating vacuum vessel becoming charged when the tube is small. The vacuum vessel (4) consists of a cylindrical metal part (2) around the cathode (1) and of a cylindrical insulating part (3) around the anode (5). The metal part is electrically connected to the cathode. The metal part also extends over the space between anode and cathode and may partly enclose the anode. The anode and cathode have specified relative dimensions.
