Timer for a washing machine

A washing machine including a motor (37), whose direction of rotation is repeatedly reversed, has a timer 82 including a bistable device 67 driven alternately in opposite directions, by a pin 66 on a worm wheel 64 by the motor (37) for controlling the direction of rotation. The bistable device (62) also drives a timer counter (82) through a one-way clutch mechanism. The machine has a removable hinged cover containing the drive motor 37 which is coupled to a toothed rim of the drum through a gear wheel projecting from the cover.
