PURPOSE:In fine finishing of a surface of a thin aluminum plate used for a reflective mirror, to obtain a fine optical plane, by introducing the metal plate into a cylinder and rotating the cylinder and the plate with under uniformly distributed pressure. CONSTITUTION:A metal plate 1 to be worked and a damper 5 are introduced wihtin a cylinder 4, a sand bag 6 is placed on the metal plate, and they are introduced into a work holder 3 on a lapping dick 2. By driving to rotate a lapping machine (not shown), the metal plate 1 is lapped. The weight of the sand bag 6 can be varied to vary the pressure on the metal plate 1 so that the surface of the metal platel 1 is evenly and precisely finished. The present method can also be employed for finishing a grass plate, ceramic plate or the like. |
