The support consists of a lower plate (5) made of stone, at least one surface of which has been trued-up and on top of which is an upper plate (6) which also has a trued-up surface. The upper plate is provided with a central pivot shaft (22) which passes through the lower plate. A pressurised water supply passes through channels in the lower plate and fits the top plate clear from the bottom plate. The pivot of the upper plate exerts a constant load, via an elastic arrangement, (42) which acts against the bottom face of the lower plate.
