A flexible pipe suitable for use in hot and cold water supply systems and sanitary and hydraulic installations is made, for example by extrusion, from a compound based on an ethylene/propylene polymer and/or an ethylene/propylene/diene polymer. The diene may comprises ethylidene norbornene, 1,4-hexadiene or dicyclopentadiene. The compound may include any one of the conventional reinforcing agents, fillers, cross-linking agents, plastifying agents, accelerating agents and activating agents. All the components of the compound are insoluble in and/or cannot be extracted by water up to a temperature of 50 DEG C and the compound is chemically inert. The pipes, which may comprise textile or metal reinforcement inserts, therefore do not corrode and deposits cannot build up on the inner surface. Consequently the pipes are particularly suitable for supplying drinking water and for removing waste which may contain substances which react with metal pipes. The flexibility of the pipes enables fitting of pipes in awkward or confined spaces, the pipes being able to flex to relatively small radii of curvature thereby avoiding the need to manually bend the pipe to effect a connection. |
