The powdered ore is mixed with an aq. soln. (I) of FeSO4, to obtain a ppte. of hydrated ferrous oxide which is removed by filtration. The filtrate is heated to >165 degrees C to ppte. crystals of MnSO4. H2O, i.e. the monohydrate. (I) is pref. an effluent contg. FeSO4; and the effluent may be evaporated for the pptn. and sepn. of FeSO4 crystals, which are then redissolved in water to obtain (I). The powdered ore will pref. pass through a British Standard sieve no. 50; and the mixt. of ore and (I) is pref. stirred and heated to dissolve the Mn. The effluent contg. FeSO4 may be obtd. during the treatment of TiO2 produced from ilmenite, or from plant used for pickling steel. Such effluents create disposal problems, w.r.t. the environment, which the invention eliminates.
|
