A slip ring 2 and a slip ring carrier 3 are interconnected by webs 4, the slip ring being provided with annular or helical grooves (not shown) extending inwards into axially parallel air passages 5. A nozzle 8 is provided for forced ventilation through the grooves and passages. The number of webs 4 is nine at maximum, the ratio of web width to passage width (circumferentially) is at least 1:4 and at most 1:1. Because the tensile strength of-the slip ring is greater adjacent the webs than centrally between webs, and the cooling is greater in these centres, the differential cooling compensates for differential enlargements of the slip ring due to centrifugal forces so that the slip ring surface remains even. <IMAGE> |
