The arrangement for releasing and jettisoning of loads from aircraft has a swivelling pair of hooks. The hooks are held in the locked position by a linkage with toggle levers connected to the hook and to an actuating arm. The linkage ensures independent clamping movement and ready releasing. A hook engages with a lug on the load when the latter is lifted. The upper jaw of the hook projects beyond the lower jaw. The hook is rotated into clamping position when the lug pushes the upper jaw.
