The drive for cutter spindles is used for multispindle machine tools. Driven and axially fixed drive shafts are used, on which the cutter spindles are able to rotate and move axially. The idler wheel shaft is formed by one of the drive shafts (18, 19, 21, 24) or by a short shaft (26) held in a tool spindle bearing. The relevant idler wheel block (20a) is able to rotate freely on this shaft. The rotating direction and rotating speed change gear drives can be driven by the central wheel, for example, if necessary on screwcutting.
