The data communications system allows a telephone set (11) to call up data from a central store using an additional keyboard and display unit (2, 3). The system can be used as an alternative to a telephone directory. The keyboard (1) is connected by its output to a coupler (4). A second coupler (5) before the exchange's input is connected at its output to the data store (9). The keyboard has its own memory. The information is processed by a computer (10).
