The cooling beds for rolled workpieces in rolling mills are fitted with a floor which is subdivided into one or several channels in which the mill scale collects. This can be temporarily closed from the top so as to form separate channels from which the accumulated scale can be flushed out by means of compressed water which is passed through. Special elements fitted with sealing edges are lowered into the channels which are fitted with in-and out-lets for the compressed water at their ends. The arrangement permits removal of scale without having to empty the cooling beds thus saving shutdown time. |
