The device which can be used for heating or cooling a heat carrying agent, includes a heat generator in the shape of a tubular coil,. which is curved throughout in the same direction. The agent is pumped through the annulus between the heating bar elements and the coil shell. This results in well defined flow conditions, and in a heat transfer device fo every compact, space-saving design. It is functionally reliable and safe enough to be installed as a desk unit in a laboratory.
