In the spray nozzle (21) by means of which a liquid jet (29) can be directed onto the teeth and the gums the nozzle head (23) is provided with a nozzle opening (26) which conically widens outwards in order to generate a liquid jet (29) whose cross-section increases steadily, and into which opening the liquid to be sprayed enters with a swirl. The swirl can be generated with the aid of a swirl space (27) which is allocated to the nozzle opening and to which the liquid can be supplied from one or more holes (41) parallel to the axis, arranged eccentrically thereto or opening tangentially into this space. In this way, a mouth douche is created with a sheet-like spray jet without requiring a large amount of water or a pump unit of large dimensions. The gingival capillaries can be optimally activated with the sheet-like spray jet. <IMAGE>
