A frame member for the construction of window frames, door frames or the surrounds of pivotable panels such as windows or doors or as fixed building panels, comprises a barlike element 3, shown as two hollow elements 3, 4, 5, 6 formed of bent stainless steel placed back to back, each having formed therein a wider recess 1 by walls 5, 7 and a narrower recess 2 by walls 6, 8 in the base of the wider recess, both recesses having a portion of the cross-section wider than the mouths of the recesses, e.g. dove-tail form. The double element shown in Fig. 1 is formed as left hand and right hand portions each having straight portions 4, 5, 6 connected by inclined portions 7, 8, the portions 6 being interlapped as shown and welded &c. together. As a glazing frame (Fig. 3) a strip (9) of dove-tail section having sides corresponding to the slope of sides 8, fit into the channel 2 and forms two channels (12) with the sides 7 into which inverted channels are sprung to function as two stops to support a pane (14) therebetween. In a wall panel (Fig. 4) two plates (17) are pressed against the sides 7, perpendicularly to the sides 5 and forced apart by springs or a filler of foamed rubber, which is allowed to enter the recesses 2. As a door panel (Fig. 5) strips (22) as for glazing fill the recess 2 and draught excluding strips (19, 20) are housed in the two recesses formed on either side the strip (22) and engage similar strips on the side of an adjacent frame. Figs. 6 and 7 show two modifications of this last embodiment, residing in a modification of the strips (22). |
