The process comprises oxidising iron(II) hydroxide in suspension in alkaline or acid medium with oxygen-containing gases, separating off the resulting iron(III) oxide hydroxide, preparing a pumpable mass from the iron(III) oxide hydroxide with a liquid which is inert thereto, spraying this mass into a container by means of a rotating disc and simultaneously drying the iron(III) oxide hydroxide using countercurrent inert gases heated to temperatures above the boiling point of the liquid used. <IMAGE>
