PURPOSE:To permit the suppression of the formation of low-melting substances by laying iron ores as filter bed materials over the filter bed of soaking pit in order to hold safely the pose of steel ingot charged in the soaking pit. CONSTITUTION:As filter bed material laid over the filter bed of soaking pit, iron ores, e.g., harmatite, magnetite, limonite, etc., are used. The grain size of the iron ore used is regulated according to the size of steel ingot charge, i.e., the grain size is preferably approx. 20 to 40mm. in diameter for approx. 6 to 8T of steel ingot. In short, the larger the size of steel ingot, the coarser grain size of iron ore is used. The thickness of the iron ore laid is the same as in the conventional case. Thus, the formation of low- melting substances by the interaction between the iron ore and scale formed on steel ingot or a heat-insulating material is greatly suppressed, and also the occurrence of an accident due to the erosion of the filter bed by limewash can be avoided. In addition, the stable maintenance of steel ingot on the iron ore layer can be secured because of the heavy bulk specific gravity of iron ore. Thus, damage to furnace wall due to the overturn of steel ingot can be avoided. |
