Cpds. of formula (where R1 = lower alkylene; R2 = H or Me; R3 and R4 are H or lower alkyl; X = Cl or Me; Y = H or, when X = Cl, also Cl) are herbicides with esp. low vapour pressures. They may be prepd. e.g. by reacting ZCHR2CONR3R4 with the corresp. phenoxy-alkanoic acid (where Z = halogen).
