<p>Preparation of unsaturated ketones by contact of a ketone (I) and a gas containing molecular oxygen with a catalyst, which consists of a Group IB metal or their oxides or basic salts, for 0.001-20 sec. at 400-750 deg.C. (I) contains at least 1C atom in alpha-position and 1 in beta-position to the ketonic carbon, e.g. cyclopentanone, methylcycloheanone, 4-heptanone, ethylphenylketone, cyclohexanone. Unsaturated ketones may be used for the preparation of the pesticides, N-methylcarbamate-4-benzothienyl. Small quantities of phenols may be produced as by-products and are useful in packing phenolic resins.</p> |
