A novel compound I is prepared by reacting guaiacol salicylate with nicotinoyl chloride hydrochloride in the presence of an acid binding agent. The guaiacol salicylate may be prepared from the reaction of guaiacol and salicylic acid in the presence of thionyl chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I in admixture with a diluent or carrier and are administered orally as analgesics.
