To avoid a costly slag prodn. plant with its transport installation, a fluid slag is produced directly in ingot by a stoichiometric mixt. of fine Al, and oxygen carriers pref. as NaNO3 and/or KNO3 and/or KMnO4, as primers for the exothermic reaction in the casting powder. The ingots are lined in a cascading manner. The slag produced in the first ingot, overflows after the cast into the next ingot, and acts as a reaction primer. The associated temp. in reaction is sufficient to bring the mixture in soln.
