Knife edge for weighing machine mechanism - is supported on inner race of rolling bearing to minimise friction

The knife edge pivot provides a very low friction bearing for a simple lever when several layers are interconnected as in weighing machine mechanisms, a limited degree of translation is required at each pivot, a fact which results in an increase in friction. This problem is overcome by mounting the knife edge (3) in the bore (5) of the inner race (6) of a rolling bearing (4). The inner race (6) can rotate to provide the necessary degree of translation for the knife edge without any significant increase in friction.
