<p>The fuel injection pumping appts. for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine comprises an injection pump, a feed pump for supplying fuel under pressure to the injection pump, an axially movable member disposed in a surrounding body. An adjustable orifice is defined by the member and body. The size of the orifice determines the amt. of fuel supplied to the engine at each injection stroke by the injection pump. A pivotal centrifugal weight acts on one end of the member and urges the member in an axial direction to reduce the size of the orifice. A governor spring acts to urge the member against the action of the weight operator, adjustable means for varying the force exerted by the spring. The weight, spring and orifice together constitute a governor to control the speed of the associated engine accordance with the setting of the operator adjustable means. Resilient means acts to urge the reaction member and pivot in opposition to the governor spring, and a dash-pot acts to limit the rate of movement of the reaction member against the action of the resilient means when the force exerted by the governor spring is increased. A value controlled passage is in communication with the chamber of the dash-pot through which liquid can enter the dash-pot chamber at a substantially unrestricted rate.</p> |
