Scavenging system for gas compressor - prevents contamination of lubricating oil by using neutral gas

A compressor is used for compressing a gas which contaminates the lubricating oil. It has a cylinder (11) and piston which operate without lubrication. The piston rod has three separate glands (15) before it passes through the scavenge chamber (13) and is then connected to the lubricated driving mechanism. Any gas leaking into the chamber (12) is returned through the pipe (17) to the compressor inlet (111). A neutral gas with a low condensation temp is circulated by the scavenge pump (18A) through the separators (19) (21) and reservoir (20) and returned free from lubricant to the scavenge chamber (13).
