PURPOSE:To prepare a blood preparation useful for component blood transfusion, by a simple device in high yield, by filtering blood with a microporous memebrane having a number of straight pores with specific uniform diameter extending through the thickness, thereby removing the leukocytes from the blood. CONSTITUTION:Blood is filtered with one or more membranes having a number of pores with a pore diameter of 3-10mu, pref. 5-8mu, extending almost straight through the thickness of the membrane, to separate the leukocytes. The microporous membrane can be prepared e.g. by irradiating a thin film of polycarbonate with charged particles generated from a nuclear reactor, and etching the tracks with alkali. To support themicroporous membranes, a stainless steel secreen a nylon fabric screen, a perforated plastic sheet, etc. can be used. |
