<p>The vessels contain materials at high temp., esp. molten metal; and the stopper contains two plates (a,b) sliding symmetrically towards each other, and towards the vertical axis (v) of the outlet holes (h), to close the stopper. During closing, at least two orthogonal planes of symmetry are retained in hole (h). In one of several pref. designs, the stopper has an upper, stationary plate (c); and plates (a,b) slide towards each other underneath plate (c) to close the stopper with no deflection of axis (v); both plates (a,b) are then driven in the same horizontal direction to move the joint surface (a, b) away from hole (h) in plate (c). Allows accurate control of the flow of molten metal with no deflection of the molten stream.</p> |
