The fluid and powders flow into a collector chamber located underneath and in the central part of the converter based. The periphery of the chamber is fitted with a row of radial pipes, each pipe being bent in a closed loop and leading to a tuyere. The collector chamber pref. has an upper and a lower zone joined by a neck, the radial pipes being fitted on the lower zone, whereas the upper zone has a tangential inlet pipe for the fluid and powders. The radial pipes pref. end in a cone leading to tuyeres with a smaller bore dia. than that of the radial pipes, the cone protecting the inlet end of the tuyeres from wear. Below the collector chamber is another chamber fed with a coolant and fitted with pipes feeding the cooland to an outer annulus round each tuyere, thus cooling the nose of the tuyeres.
